Not Any Old God

2 Kings 17.34
And they’re still doing it, still worshiping any old God that has nostalgic appeal to them.
may we never bow to anyone or anything just because it makes us feel comfortable, just because it appeals to our natural senses, just because we think we have it made, just because the final say is us - we call the shots. no, God, may we bow down to you, even if it is uncomfortable in the natural and spiritual, not because it appeals to any of our senses apart from you. we will never have it made apart from you, God, we are fully, fully dependent on you! our every breath, our every step, our every word, our every decision - they’re all fruitless, in vain without you. with you all things are possible, by you we do greater and greater things, fruitful and purposive things. praise you!
